Henry Brisman, 94 , of Cortland, NY died January 29, 2023 after an extended illness.
Born March 18, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Julius and Grace Newman Brisman.
Having been raised near the city, he had attended Riverside Military Academy and when he graduated he took over the family's women's clothing business, Lichter-Brisman which had stores in lower New York State. Upon the closing of his stores, he was a traveling salesman for various clothing lines that served the NY and New England states.
During this time he had met his wife of 23 years, Anne Miller Metzgar and together they had the woman's clothing store, Simply Samples in Cortland for many years. He was an avid skier and belonged to the Toggenburg Ski Patrol and patrolled up until he was 86 years old. In his lifetime he had skied the mountains in Utah and Colorado and had been awarded the National Ski Patrol Honors for serving 50 years at various ski lodges. He enjoyed playing golf in the summers and was an avid pool shark playing every Wednesday with his local comrades.
He is survived by his children, Francine Roukangas of Edmond, Oklahoma, David (Sandra) Brisman of Florida, NY, Roxanne (Donald) Horton of Middletown, NY, Whitney Brisman and Erica (Nick) Prestigiacomo, of North Carolina, Nicole (Daniel) Hedges of Monroe, NY and 6 grandchildren and he is survived by his step-children as well, Mitch (Jenneifer) Metzger of Groton, Mark Metzger of Moravia and Nanette (Martin) Farkas of Lansing and 5 step-grandchildren and 3 great step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and his special friend, of 10 years, Debra Hubbard and her children Chad and Shawn Hubbard.
Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by his brother, Jerome Brisman and sister Audrey Gold .
Henry had impacted many lives and will be missed by family as well as his numerous friends.
Services for Henry will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton with the Cantor Abbe Lyons of Ithaca officiating.
Friends may call 11:30-1:00 prior to the services. Interment will be at a later date.
