Obituary for Betty P. Lance

Betty P. Lance, 100, passed away peacefully at the Groton Health Care Facility on September 28, 2022.

Born July 20, 1922 in Belleville, NJ, she was one of four children born to the late Raymond and Ruth Patrick.

For many years, she had worked as a switchboard operator for an emergency telephone answering service. She married Donald R. Lance, a decorated Navy veteran, in 1950 and they raised their six children in Nutley NJ. Upon her husband’s death in 1990, Betty moved to Groton NY and made it her home.

Active in the community, she volunteered at various things, especially gardening around Center Village and assisting the Food Net. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Betty was a member of the Groton Community Church and helped out wherever she was needed.

She is survived by her children, Charles Lance and Audrey Celentano, both of Groton, NY, as well as seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her children (Ruth Lance, Carol Chapman, Donald Lance Jr., and Arthur Lance), and by her siblings (Raymond Patrick, Jack Patrick, and Jean Praninskas).

Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at Groton Rural Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America Inc., 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.

Private graveside services will be held at the Groton Rural Cemetery on Friday, October 14, 2022.
