Obituary for Lewis Ray "Louie" Johnston

Lewis "Louie" Ray Johnston, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness.

Born May 27,1933 in Troy Mountain, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ada Mae McNeil Johnstone.

He had served his country with the United States Army from 1954-1956 and eventually made his home in the Groton area for the past 42 years. Louie had been employed as a car detailer for over 50 years working for various car dealerships , which included, Staffords, McGuire and Cortland Crysler. He was a John Wayne fan and enjoyed the simple things in life which included spending time with his family and his fur babies.

He is survived by his longtime companion of 35 years, Delores Basso and children, Kimberly (John Senecal) Travis of Groton and Angela (Greg) Vestal of Freeville as well as 2 grandchildren, Cory Ayers and Kimberly Ayers and sister in law, Demaris Crouch.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Lee and Arthur Johnston and Thalia Grantier.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 12 from 11 to 1:00 at the Zirbel funeral home 115 William St. Groton

Graveside services with full military honors will be held in the spring at Groton Rural Cemetery.
