Obituary for Emily Marie Fenton

Emily Marie (Ames) Fenton, 78, of Groton passed away in her home on Friday, March 12, 2021.

Born July 10, 1942, Emily is the daughter of the late Mary McGrady and Lyman Ames.
She was born in Tioga County General Hospital Waverly, NY and grew up in Newark Valley, NY.
Emily graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1962.

Emily was a volunteer at Cortland Regional Medical Center for 9 years, after retiring from Cornell in 2007 as a custodian. She was a member of the Christ Community Church in Cortland, NY.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard L. Fenton. They met in 1968 through a friend, Bob Plunkett at Swans trailer park Ithaca, NY, where they lived for 2 years.  It was instant love at first sight.  They were married September 7, 1968 within 6 months of meeting each other.
They then bought a house in 1970 on Mack St. Groton, NY where they raised their 3 daughters, Roxanne M. Fenton (Anthony Smith), Robin L. Fenton-Roy (Timothy Roy), and Erin C. Skinner (Shaun Skinner).
She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Some of the many hobbies Emily enjoyed was weekend league bowling for many years, and attending many trips throughout the years with the Groton and Cortland Senior Travel Clubs.
Emily enjoyed her country music, western movies, kayaking, camping, sewing quilts and blankets, gardening, feeding birds and most of all enjoyed her time spent with her family and friends around. Her family will remember many wonderful memories of holidays spent with Emily with Christmas being her most favorite of all.  Her close friends will miss the many competitive game nights they had, especially with the Hapgood's and the late Dave and Mary Bacon.

A limb has fallen from our family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me."

Remember the best times, laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls.

I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we're together again.

As Emily's wishes, there will not be funeral services at this time, family gathering will be at a later date.
