Patricia M. Wood, 56 of Cortland, NY died November 27, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. of leukemia.

Born May 19, 1964 in Cortland NY, she was the daughter of Alice Wilken Smith of Cortland and the late Robert E. Smith of Groton.

Having grown up in Groton, she graduated from Groton High School in 1982. She then attended Daemen College in Amherst NY, then transferred to Cortland State where she eventually received her Masters in Secondary Science Education.

Patricia had a very inquisitive mind and questioned, debated and discussed many topics over the dinner table. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, as well as reading, but the time she enjoyed most was the time spent with her family.

She had been employed as a laboratory technician working for various companies that handled environmental waste, dairy products, and animal nutrition. More recently her favorite job was ensuring the quality of baking soda for Natrium Products Inc in Cortland up until her illness.

Besides her mother, Alice, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Christopher Wood, daughter, Darby Wood of Cortland and step son, Gerald (Jennifer) Wood of MA. and 2 step grandchildren, Lincoln and Beckett. She is also survived by her sister, Lori (Darrell) Rhoads of Lansing, as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Arrangements will be held at a later date and announced by the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton. Condolences may be made on Patricia's guestbook at

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.(

We are heartbroken for your loss. Patty was always smiling and kindhearted. I was thinking of her as I made the mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving. Rest easy love. God bless. Thoughts and prayers are with Chris and Darby and Gerald and the rest of the family.
