Paula Sue Nicely 55, of Groton died December 20, 2019 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY after a short illness.

Born August 13, 1964 in Fairfax, Virginia she was the daughter of Paul Hickox of Georgia and the late Mary K. Myers.

Having lived in various places during her life she had resided in Germany and had graduated from Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Later living in Jacksonville, she met her husband and eventually moved to the Groton area where she had been employed by McDonalds and Burger King in Ithaca. She had been a avid puzzler, enjoyed cooking shows and games on computers. She enjoyed collecting sharks teeth when ever they traveled the beaches.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Nicely of 28 years who resides in Groton, her children, Ricardo Delgado of Ithaca, Jamie Nicely and Melissa Crosier, both of Freeville, step children, Heather Nicely and Janelle Weltz, both of Jacksonville, Florida, 14 grandchildren and sisters, Tamra Magdefrau and Kim Rydel both of Florida.

The family will hold a gathering to celebrate her life on January 18, 2020 from 2-5 p.m. at the Dryden Fire Department, Dryden, NY. She will be buried on the family plot in St. John's Cemetery in Blackshear, Georgia at a later date.

I met Paula in middle school. She was always there for me and stood up for me. She was a real spit fire lol. We always kept in touch all these years. I have so many memories. I will miss her and us talking and catching up. RIP Paula Sue. We always understood each other.

I loved all the days I shared working with Paula...going over recipes while at work...her rock candy and how much she loved her grandkids...most specially was when I got her a puppy...she truly loved the little princess I has found ...u will be missed mamma...ur up in heaven watching over everyone u

I can remember as a kid, Paula would take me down to the nearest ice cream shop and we would get root beer floats. Those were good memories. I know it is hard losing a parent, so hang on to those cherished memories. ——- KIm Rydel
