Obituary for Esther Corson Lainhardt

Esther Gilmore Corson Lainhardt, 87, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at Beechtree Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Ithaca after an extended illness.

Esther was born to Ernest and Ada Kimble Gilmore. She was the first born of six children and attended Whitney Point Central School. Esther was a devoted born-again Christian and a member of the Groton Assembly of God Church. Two of her favorite leisure activities were crocheting infant blanket and sweater sets, and baking cookies, pies and cakes for her family and friends.

She worked in many jobs throughout her life. She worked for Endicott-Johnson Shoe Manufacturing Company. She worked as a housekeeper. Esther helped underpriveleged families in the Chenango Forks School District while employed by Opportunities For Broome. Before retiring, she worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City as a sterilization technician. Esther was no stranger to hard work. No job was too small or beneath her, as long as she could pay the bills, put food on the table for her children, and put a roof over their heads.

Esther is survived by her four children, Dan (Mary) Corson, Jr., Donald (Joyce) Corson, Sr., Doreen (Jerry) Cleary and Denise Turner (Peter) Miller. Also her brothers, Charles (Ginny) Gilmore, Austin Gilmore, David (Bonnie) Gilmore and her sister, LaVerna Gilmore Mastronardi.
