In Memory Of Janice Youngs
Janice Mary (Nickerson) Youngs, 83, of Groton NY, died on October 15, 2019 at the Groton Community Health Care Center. It was the 64th anniversary of her marriage to Harry A. Youngs (1936-2018).
Born August 17,1936 in Pharsalia NY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lillian (Wichman) Nickerson. Janice grew up in Homer, NY and was a resident of the area for her whole life. She lived in Groton for the past 52 years, where she and Harry raised their family.
Janice had several creative hobbies over the years – crocheting, doll making, and shyly teaching herself to play organ, accordion, guitar, and keyboards. She was a natural storyteller and amassed the family photograph collection. Janice was also a terrific fan of western movies, country music, and dancing, having taught her children jitterbug and line dances when they were young. Among favorite memories are how Janice and Harry danced together at home, and how she recalled the birthdays of even the most distant relatives and acquaintances.
Janice is a baptized member of the Cortland Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her children, Debra (Dave) Hotaling of Berkshire; Karen Youngs Nocera (Jeff McCullough) of Ithaca; Susan (Bill) Chaltain of Groton; Jeffrey (Susan) Youngs of Summer Hill; granddaughter Katelyn (Joe) Young of Groton; 7 additional grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters and 1 brother.
The family will receive friends on Sunday October 20th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams Street, Groton. Interment will be in the Groton Rural Cemetery, in a private family gathering. Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association are gratefully welcomed.
