Charles C. Gladu, 104, of Ithaca, NY died March 3, 2019 after a short
illness. Charlie was born on May 24, 1914 in Keeseville, NY. He was the
son of Charles and Minnie Bonville Gladu.
Charlie served in the Army during World War II and eventually moved to the Ithaca area.
He was an electrician and carpenter, using those skills in many capacities
throughout his life. Charlie worked until late in his life, and retired
from Park Communications. Charlie had a love of antique cars and
especially woodworking, and could often be found in his "shop" building
or repairing furniture until he was 100.
Charlie is survived by his son, Brian Gladu, daughters Michelle Gladu
and Anna Jobe, grandchildren Bruce Jobe and Lila Benz, great grandsons
Wesley and Tyler Jobe, a great great grandson, Bentley, and several
extended family members. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille Gladu
and his granddaughter Susan Hutt, as well as his four sisters, a brother
and many other family members.
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at Longview, 1 Bella Vista
Drive in Ithaca, NY 14850 on Sunday, March 17th from 12:30 pm-2:00 pm.
Charlie had made Longview his home since 2015, and his family is
tremendously grateful for the care and love the Longview staff gave him
in the last years of his life. We are also grateful to Hospicare for the
compassionate care they gave him in the last days of his life. Donations
in honor of Charlie to Longview's Quality of Life Fund or to Hospicare
would be greatly appreciated.
