Obituary for Joshua D. Wickham

Joshua D. Wickham, 17, of Ellis Creek Rd., Barton, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.

Joshua was born on March 19, 2001 in Cortland, NY, the son of Michael C. Wickham of Barton, NY and Mary Jane Hutchison Rowley of Syracuse, NY. Joshua spent the early part of his life in Groton and Cortland, attending the Cortland City Schools through the 9th grade. His family then moved to the Barton area and he attended the Spencer-VanEtten Central School currently was a senior there.

He served on the Student Council, the baseball team, the yearbook committee, the concert and jazz bands and the theatrical department, having roles in many of the school’s plays and musicals.

He was an extremely talented individual in many subjects but was most involved with his music. He played the trumpet, piano and the guitar. He had played solo in the Cortland Old Timers Band as one of its youngest members and The Kirby Band in Nichols, NY. Joshua had received a Presidential Music Award. He received several All-State Band and NYSSMA awards. He had recently been selected to attend the “American Music Abroad” program for gifted musicians.

He was a member of the Tioga Center United Methodist Church where he was involved with Vacation Bible School, was a teen mentor and was involved with the Leadership Training Camp at Casowasco.

He is survived by his parents, Michael C. and Beth Ann Wickham at home; his mother and step-father; Mary Jane and David Rowley of Syracuse; his sister, Jessica Wickham of Syracuse; his step-brothers, Charles, Daniel-Joseph and Dylan; his paternal grandparents, Lynnette Rounsaville of Groton and B. James Hollenbeck of Spencer and Roberta Hollenbeck of Waverly, NY; his maternal grandfathers, William Hutchison and John Acton, both of Massena; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his paternal grandfather, Theodore R. Rounsaville in 2013.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 22nd, 1:00 p.m. at the Tioga Center United Methodist Church, 3024 Main St., Tioga Center, NY. Interment will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY on Saturday, December 22nd, 9:30 a.m.
