Condolences & Tributes

We encourage you to share any memorable photos or stories about Lawrence. All tributes placed on and purchased through this memorial website will remain on in perpetuity for future generations.

Maggy, Lyra and I are devastated by this news. We both loved Larry, but he was a very special soulmate to me. Reflecting on all the fun we had together, not to mention all the great advice and insight he shared with me, makes me all the sadder that we did not keep in closer touch after he retired. I spoke with him while y’all were still in Durham, and sensed something was not right, but I had no idea what might be wrong. Lyra and I will keep you and the family in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Jim

No loss is simple. We may search for true comfort, but it is hard to find. There is hope, and comfort from God. John 5:28,29: “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...” Those who have died are in Gods memory, they have the prospect of being brought back to life. Not only will God comfort us now, but he will provide a resolution in the near future that will reunite us with those we have lost. Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time.

Maggie and family: Larry's passing leaves a void that mere words can do little to fill. As many have known and said, he was a larger-than-life presence and immensely likable. He was a guy who could walk into any room and later walk out of it with several more new friends. He loved sports (something we bonded over immediately) and having a good time. He also loved publishing (and was exceedingly good at that) and often commented upon what a privilege it was to be able to be a part of that profession. No wonder his authors were so crazy about him and their books did so well. But, more than anything, he loved his family, and on more than one occasion I saw him tear up over the happiness that had brought him, in a way that nothing else could. Needless to say but I'll say it anyway: I feel very fortunate to have known him.

I only met Larry once, but I will be forever grateful he took a chance on me and my manuscript. My deepest condolences to the Malley family.

Larry will always be one of my all-time favorite people. What started as a professional relationship grew into a lasting friendship that I will treasure forever. Much love to Maggie, their family, his colleagues, and Larry's many, many friends.
