Obituary for Lawrence F. ""Larry The Legend"" Hamilton Sr.

Lawrence F. Hamilton Sr., 85 of Cortland, NY died April 12, 2018 at his daughter’s home of natural causes.
Born June 25, 1932 in Cortland NY he was the son of the late Clarence and Inez Bishop Hamilton.
 
A lifelong resident of the area, he had graduated from McGraw High School in 1950 and joined the United States Air Force serving his country during the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam War retiring in 1981.  He had been employed with Smith Corona in Cortland, later followed by 17 years at RTE in McGraw from which he retired in 2007.
 
He attended Peruville New Testament Church.  He enjoyed bowling; earning induction into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame; and basketball where he earned the nick-name “Larry The Legend”; playing until 72 years of age.
 
Lawrence is survived by his children, Kevin Hamilton of Cortland, Lawrence F. Hamilton Jr.(Danielle) of Coram, NY, Linda Rabusin  (Eric)  of Cortland, Karen Dugas (Ed) of Gloversville and Susan Hamilton Ripley of Elmira, 9 grandchildren Tara, Crystal, April, Marissa, Adrianna, Alaina, Matteo, Alexis, and Jace and several great grandchildren as well as his sister, Margarite Kabanuk and nieces; Terri, Tammi and nephews; Kenny, Keith and Kevin. A sister in law, Shirley Hamilton of Homer and a cousin Shirley Russell survive him as well.
 
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Margaret Duffy Hamilton; children Lawrence (Booney), Robert, and baby Linda; his brother, Fredrick Hamilton; and brother-in-law George Kabanuk.
 
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 7pm until 9pm at the Zirbel Funeral Home in Groton.  Memorial Services  will be held  Tuesday April 17, 2018 at 10am at Peruville New Testament Church with Pastor John Iler officiating.  Interment will follow at the Groton Rural Cemetery with Military honors.  There will be a  reception following at the church.
